I had thyroid surgery a week ago&now i have a big hard lump above the incision was. How long until goes away?

I have thyroid surgery about a week ago and now i have a hard lump above where the incision was and it is very uncomfortable. Does anyone have any idea how long it will be until this lump goes away or why it is like this?
