It is possible, but anesthesia awareness is very rare. You don't feel anything during surgery. You doctor will probably be talking to you, then you feel sleepy, then, all of the sudden, someone is saying, "surgery is over, wake up."

After 30 years as an ENT surgeon I assure you that general anesthesia always works.
ALWAYS. You have nothing to fear from surgery... beyond mild local pain during recovery. Thyroidectomy is not a painful procedure, is nearly always done under general.
You will suddenly wake up afterwards thinking, "OK , I'm ready to be put out now."

It works. No, you feel nothing. But please do be careful, ask the anesthesias how long they've been doing it and how experienced they are. My dad went in for surgery, woke up when he shouldn't have, had a heart attack, died for 12 minutes before they brought him back to life and was a vegetable for five years before he died for good due to complications. I can't even make this stuff up, so for the love of god do your research on the team performing your surgery.

Theres a really really small chance that it wont work. Like a 2% chance. Im not trying to scare you but Im sure you'll get through the surgury. You will feel absolutly nothing during the operation. Its just the aftermath of anesthesia that really sucks because you'll be really thirsty and weak.
